Shervin Boloorian - Enjoy The Silence Remixes

Fresh remixes coming from Simon Mills (One Half Of Bent) and Luke Scheybeler (Physical Education) of Shervin Boloorian's wonderful reimagined version of the Depeche Mode classic Enjoy The Silence. Simon drops a beautifully balearic take, all squelchy and lush as you would expect. Dreamy! Physical Education delivers 3 mixes with the Amapiano Mix going deep with a groove to die for. The track is in a downtempo, hypnotic and very percussive Amapiano/Afro house style. With heavily looped vocals, it still retains the signature hook of the original record and returns to a 4/4 like the original DM version. Amapiano originated in South Africa as a form of Deep House, fused with African dance music.

The Vocal Dub and Edit stay a lot truer to the arrangement of Shervin's cover original whilst adding natural sounds, a driving beat and accentuating some of the vocals and strings. With a new gospel-inspired soulful sound, multi-instrumentalist and sound healer Shervin Boloorian takes Depeche Mode’s 1990 Electronic Synth-Pop classic "Enjoy the Silence" to new places with soft vocals and string arrangements plus keyboard instrumentation. Boloorian’s near total reimagining – “Enjoy the Silence (All I Ever Wanted Version)” -- is available now. Working with Grammy-winning producer Kipper Eldridge (Sting’s Brand New Day), this cover of “Enjoy the Silence” brings a refreshing edginess and polished production.

Boloorian’s version alters the time signature and melody of the original, allowing his voice to surge in some parts and hold others back in, part of what is becoming his signature musical style. He says, “The more soulful vocal melody that I wrote resonates with my style of singing, even though it’s an unconventional departure from the original and all of the other cover versions.”

Depeche Mode’s 1990 classic pop song came out during what Boloorian calls his “darkest and most troubling” period. He reflects, “Listening to this song and the whole album (Violator) on repeat provided some strange comfort. They are favorites of mine because of the poetic power of their song lyrics and their musical talents. Their themes and songwriting (indirectly) may have primed me for the fascination I would have for Sufism later in life.” Boloorian cites the band as one of his biggest inspirations.

Kipper Eldridge provided invaluable input with respect to different vocal touches and the song’s new arrangement. His piano and organ gives the song its Gospel-inspired backbone and his polished production work dresses it up in its Sunday best. Shervin says, “Working with Kipper completely enhanced my creative abilities. His musicianship as a featured artist and his insights as a creative consultant (as well as producer) on several tracks, elevated my artistry.”

Born in Iran and raised in the UK, Boloorian is a celebrated vocalist, musician, and natural sound artist currently based in Bali, Indonesia. He is known for his award-winning work in the healing music industry, having won three Global Peace Song Awards in 2020. His music draws from his multicultural background, blending Western influences with his proud Persian roots, being a testament to the power of music as a tool for healing, activism, and personal expression.

“Enjoy the Silence (All I Ever Wanted Version)” is the first single from a new album, intriguingly titled Unbroken, slated for release at the beginning of 2025. The upcoming album is a temporary departure from his previous medicine songs and ancient Persian Sufi music in that it distinctly offers modern music that blends diverse yet memorable music with messages of hope and resilience.

With this new recording, Boloorian and team embrace the shadows, exploring the coexistence of trauma and healing through familiar pop music, a rare approach in the healing music genre.
