Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor (Mella Dee Remixes) / Devotion (Boys' Shorts Remix)
September 5th sees the release of 'Joy In Repetition', Hot Chip’s 'Best Of' album. A collection shaped by dancefloors, bedroom studios, festival stages and friendship, 'Joy In Repetition' arrives more than two decades deep into Hot Chip’s career.
Remaining as vital as ever, the 'Best Of' maps out Hot Chip’s artistic evolution from DIY beginnings into “the greatest British pop group of their generation” (The Guardian) with six Top 20 albums, a Mercury Music Prize nomination, sell-out residencies at London’s Brixton Academy and list of collaborators that includes David Byrne, Jarvis Cocker, Robert Wyatt and Brian Eno.
The band share two new remixes of the Grammy-nominated 'Ready For The Floor' – also their highest charting single yet – by UK producer Mella Dee. On the Mella Dee Dub version, Mella Dee teases out the track to seven minutes focusing and slowing down Alexis Taylor’s singular vocals: “Do It Do It Do It Now.” whilst the Spanglecore Dub edit sees Mella Dee strip away even more to create a hypnotic trippy alternative.
Hot Chip also recently shared a Boys’ Shorts remix of their new song 'Devotion' who added a Moroder-esque bass synth pattern and ramped up the sleaziness.
The 'Best Of' title - 'Joy In Repetition' - alludes to both the lyrics of their career-defining track and one of Alexis Taylor’s favourite Prince songs – captures something elemental about the band: a fascination with rhythm, but also the exuberant act of making those things, together, over and over and over and over and over. In another nod to 'Over and Over', the album’s artwork by the legendary Sir Peter Blake features a painted monkey with a miniature cymbal.
Hot Chip will celebrate the release of 'Joy In Repetition' with a show at London’s Troxy on September 5th.
