I remember when I was at Uni, I wanted to be a journalist. But two things made me decide not to.

The first reason - in the very first lecture - the teacher told us that journalists were rated just above used car salesmen and you would have to be prepared to do whatever it takes to make the story. They then showed a video of journalists trying to interview family members at an airport just as they found out the plane carrying their loved ones had crashed.

And secondly, being a touch lazy/not really focussed on my studies - rather than actually interview the people I was meant to for a story - I decided to make it all up at which time I realised I was dangerously good at making things up and that might be a little dangerous to choose reporting for a career.

Anyway - no judgement on journalists. The good ones are amazing and the truth is - everyone's got to make a livin.
