Patrick Martin - Stranger Nights

Los Angeles-based pop singer-songwriter Patrick Martin has returned with a new single “Stranger Nights” following his smashing debut earlier this year. Just Jared dubbed him “a rising star” while Live Nation’s Ones To Watch praised him for “...[creating] a beautiful space to lose oneself in” and additionally called his work “spellbinding.” A perfect mixture of west coast cool and midwestern charm, it’s no surprise NPR-affiliate KCRW were the first to champion the artist and air “Cinema Love,” his first release under his solo moniker. Prior to that, Patrick paid his dues with Antics supporting Martin Garrix at Summerfest and opening at Spring Awakening for headliner Dillon Francis. Fans can stream “Stranger Nights” now, here: https://patrickmartin.lnk.to/strangernightsPR.

When asked about the new single, Patrick Martin said: “Lyrically, I really wanted to create the juxtaposition of happy production with a melancholic narrative. Conceptually, the lyrics highlight the ‘strange’ feeling of coming out of a relationship and losing the comfort of that person being consistently by your side. At first you experience this sense of freedom and eagerness to go and pursue a romantic moment with the nearest stranger, but you soon realize how empty it feels to be with anyone but your lost lover… The last line of verse two really sums up what this song is about, saying ‘I’m riled up, these Sunday mornings start to pile up, ooo I thought these days were made for wild love.’ Sunday’s were made for cozying up with someone you love whilst watching movies all day and I’m sitting here, frustrated due to that fact that I’m with a complete stranger and all I want to do is be with the girl I truly feel for. We think we’ll enjoy the freedom of breaking up, but it always leaves us feeling lonely and empty.”

Patrick Martin is due to perform at The Great Escape festival in Brighton, UK on Thursday May 9th. For more and tickets, please visit: https://greatescapefestival.com/artists/patrick-martin.

Born and raised in Saukville, WI, Martin was introduced to music at an early age, with classic-rock staples like the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, the Allman Brothers, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young on regular rotation. "My mom was a tailor, so I'd hop in the car while she was working and the radio would be playing classic rock," he remembers. "That's where my love for music started — being in that car."

His early songwriting influences were John Mayer as well as Jack Johnson ("He told really good stories, lyrically") as he started dabbling in his own songcraft around the age of 16. "There was this girl that I really liked," Martin explains. "I took this song I was listening to and rewrote it to fit our situation."

While attending Marquette for a degree in psychology and sociology, a relationship during his sophomore year "planted the seed of writing and doing music. I was like, 'Oh shit, I need to do something to get all these things out of me.'" A semester studying abroad in London further encouraged him to pursue music full-time, as he gigged throughout the British city: "I was traveling and learning about myself and life. I wanted to tell my story and inspire people."

"I think a lot of this music can align with people in a different way when it comes to how heartbreak works — how it feels to be laying in your bed at night when you would literally do anything to see that person," Martin states while discussing what he'd like people to take away from his music. "I didn't know how to express these emotions, so I had songs that helped me process them in my head. They were anthems, for me. They perfectly said how I was feeling, and I want to give that experience to people through my own music."
