Originally released as part of Sam Gellaitry’s 2021 EP IV, “Assumptions” is now exploding across platforms and proving that some songs only need time — and the right moment — to connect. The track is seeing a massive resurgence in 2025, rapidly becoming a defining anthem of the summer.

The genre-blurring gem, known for its euphoric, late-night energy, has racked up over 85.2M global streams, with 2.5M in the last week alone (+27%). Organic discovery is driving the surge, with over 165k TikTok creations and climbing — currently averaging 1k daily posts across two trending sounds.

Spotify is responding in kind with Viral 50, mint, Dance Hits and various summer lists.

Back in 2021, IV marked a turning point for Gellaitry. Known for his vivid, synesthesia-informed production style and the genre-fluid Escapism EP trilogy (2015–2017), IV was the first project where he stepped forward as a vocalist. Self-produced, written, and mixed, it was a personal statement and artistic evolution — pairing lush electronica with soul-searching vocals.

“Assumptions,” the EP’s closer, captures that intoxicating high of a night out — when emotions run hot and clarity blurs. “It’s that moment when you’re saying things that aren’t realistic because you’re on a high,” Sam explains.
