A new artist pairing to grace the Proportion catalogue, Unusual Soul and Redspace come together with their debut collaborative release and the “Shadows of Consciousness / White Room” EP.

Hailing from Tucumán in the northwest of the country, Unusual Soul found inspiration from the progressive sound that swept through the releases of Cid Inc., Guy J, Dmitry Molosh and fellow countryman, Hernán Cattaneo. Now joining those very same artists on such blue-chip imprints as Mango Alley, Juicebox Music and WARPP after a 2021 debut, the Argentinean producer has found his way onto the playlists of Nick Warren, Mariano Mellino Ezequiel Arias and other.

As prolific as he is talented, Redspace has over 700 production credits to his name after a debut release on his own Redspace Sound in mid-2020. Since then, a plethora of high-quality releases have found their way onto such esteemed imprints as UV Noir, Area Verde and Univack with over a century each on both Superordinate Music and UNCLES MUSIC. A Beatport Top 10 HYPE Progressive House artist, the Russian star has been at the vanguard of the Progressive House and Melodic Techno sound for 5 years.

Joining forces for the first time, Unusual Soul and Redspace shine brightly on the Dmitry Molosh-led label as “Shadows of Consciousness” opens with a pounding beat and ticking percussive groove. A growling, groove-laden bassline adds gravitas to proceedings while a lighter arpeggiated refrain filters into view with its detuned oscillator vibe and effortless juxtaposition against the darker elements. Building easily through its phases, a spiky counterpoint motif comes to the fore in the second half alongside a raft of thickly textured effects, pitched-down vocal cuts and white-noise risers. The result is an imaginatively conceived and immaculately executed track that is certain to find success on dancefloors across the globe.

Partner track, “White Room” is another powerful offering with its chest-thumping kick and rapid- fire hats. A bassline soaked in stereo-panned delay quickly comes to the fore adding low-end dynamism and analogue accents, while a cadenced motif adds subtle melodic intrigue in perfect syncopation with the beats/bass combination. Evolving easily with layers of additional sounds, a searing lead bounces to the fore through its low-pass filter at the breakdown alongside an array of atmospheric effects, before picking up the pace in the second half to create a dramatic and intriguing conclusion to a dramatic, club-friendly powerhouse of a track.
