Annie & The Caldwells - Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right (Mixes - Part II)
Following the overwhelming response to Annie & The Caldwells’ debut album 'Can’t Lose My (Soul)' and its first reimagined counterpart 'I Was Living in a World of Sin (Mixes — Part I)' which included mixes from the likes of Nicky Siano, musclecars, Justin Strauss, and Kornél Kovács released earlier this year, this second collection hands over their gospel-rooted belters to leftfield dance visionaries Ryan Hope (Gabriels), Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), and Chicago’s own Rahaan.
Ryan Hope, of Gabriels fame, kicks things off with an after-hours house heater that hits the floor like it’s squaring up to Satan himself. Built from Deborah Caldwell Moore’s ‘Wrong’ — a raw, emotional warning against chasing revenge (she cheated on her husband after he cheated on her) — Ryan brought in his neighbour Jay Anderson, whose cascading sax echoes with fiery bursts. The result? A sweaty, basement banger that feels like it is alive.
Next up, Hot Chip co-founder Alexis Taylor takes the wheel. He doesn’t exactly do remixes—more like he gets in the song, heart-first. Here, he steers us straight into shimmering, golden-keyboard territory with his signature featherlight touch. A steady kick drum keeps the pace, while Deborah Caldwell Moore’s vocals on 'Wrong' swirl and clash, chop and flip until it’s Deborah versus Deborah.
Rahaan, meanwhile, sidesteps house altogether for a full-bodied disco reroute on 'I Made It' : bassline like a trampoline, guitar all wah-wah, new keys sprinkled way in back to fill it all out. He brings out Ms Annie's vocals and lyrics in a way that will have you punching the sky — a fresh, dancefloor-ready take that keeps things moving with effortless groove.
For one very special night, Ryan Hope will join Annie & The Caldwells on August 12 at St Peter's Church in Poole — their second-ever UK show — where he'll be on DJ duties alongside disco legends Horse Meat Disco, plus a live set from rising star Catherine. The following night, August 13, Annie & The Caldwells return to Church of Sound in London after their sold-out debut on Valentine’s Day earlier this year. The group will bring their powerful, gospel-rooted disco soul, combined with unquenchable sass, energy, and gritty, raw emotion to these shows and more across Europe. The full tour dates are:
