SODY - The Bully

Following an unreal 2018, hotly-tipped newcomer SODY releases her first taster of new music for 2019 in the form of “The Bully”, which is released today.

Having spent 2018 developing her passion for song writing and refining her sound and live show, new single ‘The Bully’ is the culmination of who Sody is both as a young artist and an outspoken, self-expressive songwriter. Known for her unfiltered and emotional lyrics, ‘The Bully’ holds absolutely nothing back.

The track is refreshingly raw in its own way. Moving lyrics celebrating the beauty of being different are delivered through soothing vocals backed by a delicate piano line. When the beat comes in, the energy heightens, while still maintaining the mellow mood of the track.

The official video, directed by London duo Will & Carly, is simple yet powerful. Their recent works have explored projects that deal with human and social issues to raise awareness and inspire change, something that resonated with Sody and the meaning behind “The Bully”. The video depicts other young individuals who have experienced the challenges of bullying or tough relationships in their lives, making the theme of the song even more relatable to anyone who has ever battled with feeling powerless.

On the track, Sody comments; “I wrote The Bully whilst I was reflecting on how I felt about being bullied at school. For my sanity, I needed to try and find the positive in a negative situation to accept what had happened and move on. I found my way to heal in the lyric ‘I’m glad it happened to me and not you’ and I really hope it helps others find their inner strength too.”

Previous releases “Maybe It Was Me” and “Let You Know” have amassed over 6M streams on Spotify alone, with media support coming from the likes of Clash, The Line of Best Fit and Wonderland Magazine, amongst many others.

Sody doesn't follow the rules or follow the crowd; this is expertly curated music. Her forward-thinking, emotionally raw song-writing style has led to relatable, cutting-edge pop that marks her as a unique new artist.

On her forthcoming EP Sody channels her own isolation and independence in an unveiling of raw sentiments, working with frequent collaborator, the co-writer and producer Frances. Being ok with going it alone and not oversharing every element of her life across social media is Sody’s self-empowerment, which is relatively unheard of for a woman of her age.

Following an unforgettable Glastonbury performance after huge support from BBC Introducing, 2018 proved to be an unstoppable year for Sody, who supported Tom Walker on his UK tour last October. To coincide with the single release Sody is also visiting schools across the country, giving students motivational talks and exclusive performances.
