Crooked Man - Maladjustment To Love (Mixes)
'Maladjustment To Love' is the perfect album opener for Crooked Stile, the new album by Crooked Man – Sheffield’s Richard Barratt, a cult producer who has been quietly shaping underground club music for years.
Here, Barratt distils everything he does best into one track: a heavy, low-slung groove, a deep emotional core and just enough oddness to make it unmistakably his. 'Maladjustment To Love' sits in the space between leftfield house, street-soul and twisted late-night electronica – warm, rolling and hypnotic rather than shouty or obvious.
On remix duty for this package are Sheffield stalwarts and Crooked friends. Tooth is Pipes & Mark Brydon - sleeve designer and long time musical collaborator respectively - they deliver a tough, wonky electro version that twists the track even further. Ben Fat Trucker’s remix is a touch more techno, tough drums and interweaving synth lines… both mixes are nails.
Making up the package Random House Project - an artist who has constantly impressed us with his fine reworks - gifts us two fine versions… his Dark Disco Remake is less steel and more silk. The Readjusted Edit is a more subtle rework that introduces some fine breakbeats into the groove that probably shouldn’t work but really does.
