Danny Goffey - Schtick

Behold! Supergrass hero Danny Goffey announces the release of his new album ‘Schtick!’ released on Distiller Records. To celebrate the release, Danny will host Goffstonbury, his own festival and Glastonbury placeholder, at his home in Somerset on June 23rd.

Written and performed by Danny Goffey and co-produced by Simon Byrt, with cameos from Suede’s Brett Anderson, Rialto’s Louis Eliot and Insecure Men’s Marley Mackey, ‘Schtick!’ bursts with a frenetic energy, darting between a dark cynicism and youthful vitality, driven by Danny’s determination to write a song on par with ‘Teenage Kicks.’ Defined by sparky guitar riffs, instantly anthemic hooks and a punchy vocal delivery to rattle the bland, ‘too cool’ landscape of modern indie, ‘Schtick!’ commands its listener to sit up and listen from start to finish.

Lyrically, ‘Schtick!’ is a collage of modern hysteria, exploring religion, addictive tendencies, gang violence, ‘LAD’ culture and neuroticism from the perspective of a man who may well have seen it all. “The last album was more about my domestic life,” says Danny of his 2015 album as vangoffey, ‘Take Your Jacket Off & Get Into It’. “On this album, I got to grips with bigger topics like unprovoked violence and how religion is so strange... I do think it stands out in today’s music.” It’s his colourful portrayal of modern society that makes ‘Schtick!’ so refreshing; topical hot takes reimagined as off-the-wall anecdotes, culminating in a body of work that both embodies the zeitgeist and remains intrinsically Goffey.

To celebrate the album’s release, Danny will host Goffstonbury, a unique live music event at his home in Somerset. Speaking about the festival, Danny says: “Madness galore… including music, emotional dance, hedonistic treats and a Les Dawson impersonator. It’s gonna be bonkers.” Fans who pre-order the album will be entered into a draw, from which 100 lucky devils will be invited to spend what would be Glastonbury weekend in the company of a host of weird and wonderful characters, with some very exciting live performers to be announced in the coming months.

Best known as the drummer and songwriter of seminal British trio Supergrass, Danny Goffey’s influence on British rock music has been cited by the likes of Muse and Stereophonics. Supergrass released 7 albums across 17 years, amassing over 2 million album sales before splitting in 2010. In recent years, Danny has contributed to the 2004 reissue of #1 Christmas classic ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ alongside Paul McCartney and Thom Yorke, as well as ‘Consequences’, a charity release for the homelessness charity Crisis alongside Paul Weller and Gaz Coombes.
