RIUSEI - The Groove [Magician On Duty]

RIUSEI makes his first appearance on Magician On Duty with The Groove, the label’s 117th release and its first of 2026. It’s a measured, late-night EP that leans into restraint rather than spectacle—an approach that feels aligned with both the label’s catalog and RIUSEI’s long-term artistic trajectory.

Active in electronic music since 2011, RIUSEI is less a fresh alias than a recalibration. Named after the Japanese word for “shooting star” (流星), the project is built around the idea of concentrated impact: brief, intentional gestures that leave a trace. That philosophy carries through the music, which sits comfortably within contemporary Indie Dance and Indie Tech, but avoids genre shorthand. The focus here is on pacing, atmosphere and control—tools sharpened over more than a decade of touring across the Middle East, Russia, Asia and the UAE.

The EP’s title track, “The Groove,” is designed for rooms that are already deep into the night. There’s no rush to declare itself. A heavy, pressurised low end does most of the work, while percussion and synth elements enter quietly, almost reluctantly. Tension is sustained rather than resolved, with subtle modulation replacing obvious breakdowns. It’s functional without being blunt—music for DJs who prefer to hypnotise a floor rather than reset it.

“Slow Burn” pushes that ethos further. Built around negative space and long-form development, the track unfolds gradually, anchored by low-register Portuguese vocals that drift through the mix like an internal monologue. Nothing here is engineered for a peak-time payoff. Instead, micro-shifts in texture and rhythm reward close listening and long blends, making it especially effective in transitional moments or extended closing sets.
