Rewind Forward Vol. 1 by Philipp Jung

Get Physical Music co-founder Philipp Jung returns with a series of new remixes as part of an 11-track compilation. ‘Rewind Forward Vol. 1’ is the first in a new series that collects hidden pearls and forgotten gems from the label's vast back catalogue.

Germany's Philipp Jung is one of the architects of the contemporary house scene. He emerged as half of the seminal M.A.N.D.Y. duo, bringing a fresh take on the genre that brought melody and groove in equal measure to many of their tracks. He also co-founded Get Physical Music and Kindisch and has explored everything from dark, driving sounds to more sunny, uplifting ones. Last year, he released three new remixes that appear on this collection, with the fourth also featuring alongside plenty of standout moments from Get Physical’s musical history.

The unreleased remix finds Jung adding his own extended spin to 'Just Let Go' by Birds Of Mind feat. Zemira Israel. In his hands, it becomes a bass-driven, chunky, and mid-tempo groove. There's a subtle bounce in the drums and smart effects, with sultry vocals panning across the mix alongside wispy synth details. His other remixes include a lithe, percussive ReGroove of DJ T.'s 2009 standout 'Bateria', a spine-tingling rework of Bruce Leroys' 2019 deep house gem 'Liberdade', and a pulsating, drum-led remix of Siopis's intimate 2010 tune 'Really Love Ya'.

The rest of the collection includes Ryan Murgatroyd remixing Afro legend Dele Sosimi's 2019 hit 'E Go Betta' into a spiritual rhythm with life-affirming melodies and rousing vocals, and the twitchy electronics and moody stylings of Class B Band's ‘Dark Bather’. Digitaline's 'A Journey To The Stars' has aged well since its release in 2016, with great suspense and tension in its sparse, dubby drums. M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Adultnapper's 'Bus Ted' (Kenny Larkin Long Neve Remix) will stand out in any era with its eerie futurism, and Reboot's 'Just Hang On' (Kölsch Remix) is another classic from 2016 that shimmers with synth soul and a driving tech house undercurrent. Add George Vala's sultry, enchanting voodoo house anthem '11:41' and the tropical-house heat of Wolf Story's meandering, organic 'Between The World And Me', and you have a magnificent collection of stylish house.
