Blanka Mazimela & Veegito SA – Igubu Letyala
Blanka Mazimela continues to carve his path as one of South Africa’s most distinct voices in Afrocentric electronic music. Known for fusing cinematic deep house with ancestral rhythm and rooted storytelling, his sound is both transportive and deeply grounded, an ever-evolving dialogue between heritage and modernity.
Following standout appearances at Anjunadeep Open Air: South Africa and Lovers + Friends Festival, Blanka steps into 2025 with renewed focus. His forthcoming release, "Igubu Letyala" (The Stolen Drum), created in collaboration with rising producer Veegito SA, is a hypnotic Afro-house cut; organic, percussive, and spiritually charged. It’s not just a track; it’s a reclamation. A conversation between the ancient and the now, made for both peak-time sets and introspective listening.
This release forms part of a larger narrative Blanka is crafting through Homelands, his ongoing mix series and cultural project exploring the soulful, spiritual sounds of the Eastern Cape. More than a mix, Homelands is a statement of intent: a space where memory, identity, and rhythm converge. Now expanding into a boutique Homelands Live Experience, it’s an offering tailored for stages that value authenticity and elevate African excellence.
Blanka’s impact also extends through Bantwanas, the Afro-electronic band he leads championed by the likes of Cercle, All Day I Dream, and Anjunadeep. Their hybrid sets blur the line between performance and ritual, blending storytelling and electronic music in real time.
With more music slated for mid-2025, including a spiritually themed EP and cross-continental collaborations, Blanka Mazimela isn’t just riding the Afro-house wave; he’s helping shape its future. “Igubu Letyala” marks a pivotal moment in that journey, a sound rooted in soil, spirit, and sonic craft.
