Thursday 23rd March, London UK: Rising pop sensation ALMA releases her debut single, Chasing Highs via VIRGIN EMI today.

Every so often a new pop star explodes out of nowhere, re-shaping people’s expectations and creating a new page in the rulebook in the process. ALMA – a 20-year old Finnish powerhouse with bright neon green hair, a ‘zero fucks’ magnetic attitude and a voice that could demolish buildings – is that new pop star.

Chasing Highs, which was premiered last night on Radio 1 by MistaJam as his ‘Hottest Record’, follows the release of ALMA’s debut EP, Dye My Hair. Since the release of Dye My Hair, ALMA has garnered over 100 million combined Spotify plays, with the title track of the EP scoring a no. 1 on iTunes in ALMA’s home country, a top 10 in Germany’s singles chart and extensive support from Radio 1 (including a recent playlist addition) in the UK.

ALMA has been championed by everyone from Annie Mac and MistaJam through Interview magazine, The Line Of Best Fit and i-D to Elton John. She’s supported fellow maverick Scandinavian MØ on tour, performed alongside Jorja Smith, Nadia Rose and The Amazons at the Radio 1 Future Festival, and been working in the studio with MNEK, Rudimental, Sub Focus, 2 Inch Punch, Sophie and Charlie XCX (to name a few). Last month saw her win two out of the five awards she was nominated for at the EMMAs (Finland’s answer to The Grammys).

In addition to releasing Chasing Highs, today will also see ALMA join Ray BLK on the bill for the Annie Mac curated AMP Collected night at the Jazz Café. The show will proceed an extensive run of headline dates and festival appearances across the UK and Europe this Spring, (see below for dates and details), including a headline show at London’s OSLO (on 16th May) and an appearance at the Great Escape Festival (on 18th May).
