Thomas Newman - Brooks Was Here (Deeparture Remix)

The first of two unofficial remixes made by WEITER / Cinematique artist Deeparture. In his own words:

As for many others, the Shawshank Redemption has always been one of my favorite films. After seeing it again for the first time in years, I was instantly hooked on the musical composition of 'Brooks was Here': one of the main theme's of the movie. The strings and piano combined play a melody that is both beautiful, sad and hope giving. It still hits me directly in the soul every time I hear it.

It felt like a personal challenge to do something with the theme that works on a dancefloor, without ruining the emotional load ánd without sampling the original. So I remade the strings and piano and only added drums & percussion, a choir and some minor sounds to accompany the melody. A small melody loop of the original score also lended itself perfectly for the intro and outro part.

In the end, I'm really happy with the end result and being able to play out a version of one of my favorite movie scores during my gigs. I hope everyone else will enjoy my interpretation as well!
