Jaakko Eino Kalevi - Black Diamond Versions

Following on from Jaakko's baroque pop interpretation of 'Black Diamond' by Finnish hair metal legends Stratovarius, is 'Black Diamond Versions', a fleshed out remix EP with a new 'Soviet-Funk' version by Jaakko alongside a remix and instrumental from cosmic commando and long-time Jaakko Eino Kalevi fan, Prins Thomas.

Of his new mix, Jaakko says, “After I finished the cover version of ‘Black Diamond’, I listened to it and thought I could take it even further from the original to make it softer and more human. So, in this version there is nothing programmed or looped, it´s all played by hand. I used only Soviet instruments to do this so that is why it´s called the ‘Soviet Funk mix'. Like West African funk processed through 80s Soviet Union.”

The original version of 'Black Diamond' is an eight-minute baroque melodrama that, stylistically and in his own fashion, draws a pentagram between Goblin, Rondo Veneziano, Cerrone, Doris Norton and Lindstrom.

A cosmic classic hewn from ancient metal, 'Black Diamond' is about an impossible relationship – something you can never get enough of. It’s another left turn from the Finnish artist and is Jaakko’s first new material since his dub of 'Cyborg' last September, the final track taken from his most recent album 'Chaos Magic'.
