Kerrier Collective - Pray for Rain

‘Pray for Rain’ is the latest single from Cornwall-based duo Kerrier Collective, featuring vocals and saxophone from regular collaborator, Polly Meyrick.

Issued on Colour and Pitch, ‘Pray For Rain’ is a haunting piece of downtempo, jazz-tinged electronica, originally written during COVID. “it’s a song about the paradox of long winter lockdown days, how it was possible to feel so cosy but also so trapped at the same time” say Kerrier Collective. “When the comfort becomes stifling and you lose your sense of strength.”

Unusually for the time, all three artists were together in the same room when ‘Pray For Rain’ was written and recorded. “The song was born in the barn where Alfie lives in Cornwall” says Ben. It was winter and the woodburner was glowing calmly. Alfie was on the drums and I had a couple of chords I was into. Polly reached for a notebook and by the end of the day we had a structure for the track.”

With previous singles receiving support on BBC 6 Music, NTS and Jazz FM, Kerrier Collective (DJ/producer Ben Tidy and multi-instrumentalist Alfie Gidley) have a series of stunning releases ready to unleash on the Colour and Pitch label during 2026, as well as a new live band setup which is starting to make waves on the vibrant Westcountry music scene.

The duo’s new ‘Winter Sun’ Remix takes ‘Pray For Rain’ into languid UK Garage territory, with laid-back 2 step beats, warm keys and bubbling basslines. As Ben expands:
“I’m from Watford in North West London and was a teenager in the 90s so UK Garage is like folk music to me. Somehow it’s in our DNA. I wanted to dig a little deeper into those influences when I started this remix because the original has that velvety tone to it like some of those jazzier UKG cuts. Alfie went straight to the drums and started playing little jazzy fills which I was first resistant to, but now I think are some of the best parts of the rhythm track.”

The song also features a stunning video shot at Cornwall’s Potager Garden, a social and environmental project based in an abandoned plant nursery. “We enlisted the help of cameraman-supreme, Jack Hayter and stole him away to Cornwall for a day”, the duo explain. ‘There are enormous and amazing greenhouses full of tropical plants at Potager Garden, and we were kindly allowed to set up in there for one night. Jack did an incredible job of lighting the space so it looked like we were almost in a jungle. It took all night to get all the shots we needed, even after Chris, our drummer, got sent home for making too much noise. You can just see the blue dawn stealing over Alfie’s shoulder in one of the final shots.”
