Helsloot & Beacon - I Was There (Booka Shade Remix)

Get Physical Music welcomes back label co-founders Booka Shade with a new remix of ‘I Was There’ by Helsloot & Beacon. The track originally appeared on Helsloot’s Body Language Vol. 27 album, released in November 2025, and now receives a beautifully atmospheric reinterpretation from one of the label’s founding acts.

Body Language has long been a defining pillar of Get Physical Music. Originally launched as a pioneering DJ mix series in the early 2000s, it has evolved into a platform for artist-led albums that capture the current pulse of underground electronic music while pointing toward its future. For the 27th edition, Dutch producer Helsloot took full creative control, delivering a cohesive melodic house statement that reflects both his emotive production style and the enduring spirit of the label. The original ‘I Was There’, created together with Brooklyn duo Beacon, stood out on the album for its emotional vocal theme and immersive melodic atmosphere.

Now Booka Shade bring their own signature touch to the track. Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier reshape the original vocal into a rhythmic centerpiece, twisting and weaving the “I Was There” phrase through a lush and deep melodic soundscape. Their remix builds a dreamy sonic bed of warm synth textures, subtle grooves and evolving layers, gradually expanding into a rich atmospheric journey that highlights the emotional power of the vocal while giving the track a new club-ready perspective.

The remix also marks a symbolic return. Despite being among the founders of Get Physical Music in 2002, alongside M.A.N.D.Y., DJ T. and Peter Hayo, this is Booka Shade’s first release on the label since their track ‘Aery Canary’ in 2013. Over the past two decades the duo have remained one of electronic music’s most respected acts, from their groundbreaking successes ‘Mandarine Girl’ and the globally influential ‘Body Language’ in 2005 through to celebrated remixes for artists including Depeche Mode, Moby, Hot Chip and RÜFÜS DU SOL.

With their remix of ‘I Was There’, Booka Shade close a meaningful circle within the Get Physical family. Blending Helsloot’s melodic vision with their own deep, cinematic production style, the result is a timeless and immersive reinterpretation that reconnects the label’s past, present and future on the dancefloor.
