WVCHWY - totemic relations

‘totemic relations' is a powerful declaration of cultural survival. An affirmation that, despite generations of attempted erasure, the totems and traditions of my people remain vibrant and alive. Rooted in my Kalkadungu heritage from the Mt Isa region, the track pays tribute to my totems, the red-tailed black cockatoo and the emu. I wove these connections directly into the music, sampling the call of the black cockatoo, manipulating it into percussive textures that drive the rhythm. The yidaki/didgeridoo forms the backbone of the track, while an acid 303 line threads through in the signature WVCHWY style. 'totemic relations' is both a celebration and a statement, our culture is here, it’s beating, and it’s not going anywhere.
