Nomad In The Dark - Chromatic EP (incl. Gowzer and The Running Man Remixes) - Friday Island

Friday Island is back for its second release with a double-header from US-based producer Nomad In The Dark, who delivers his first original production in six years. Hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, Nomad In The Dark exploded on the scene in 2009 when Sasha picked him as his breakthrough DJ/producer of the year in DJmag. Since then he has released on labels such as Audio Therapy, Armada, Balance, Global Underground, Hope Recordings, Pangea Recordings and Stripped. His track ‘Drones’ also featured on Nick Warren’s Balance 18 mix compilation.

First up on the Chromatic EP is ‘Magenta 1’, a proper deep prog set builder with a stripped back rolling groove, plucky rubbery bass and sprawling atmospheric pads that create a far-out ethereal vibe that makes it feel like you are drifting blissfully somewhere at the edge of space.

On the flip side is ‘Sienna 23’, an upbeat melodic banger inspired by Spooky’s ‘Little Bullet’ that oozes energy and style, giving that ’93 prog trance sound a 2025 make over with epic chords and snappy synth lines that don’t let you rest for a second.

Rising Scottish prog house talent Gowzer delivers a stunning remix of ‘Magenta 1’—all driving bass, groovy percussion and an infectious riff that will no doubt smash up dancefloors worldwide. Expect big things from this man over the coming year!

Finally, Cardiff-based DJ and producer The Running Man, fresh from his debut release on Friday Island, is back with a cracking prog breaks remix of ‘Sienna 23’ that maintains the melodic energy of the original but adds in crunchy drums and deep, window-rattling bass.

Friday Island is a new progressive house label from former DJmag clubs editor and Ibiza editor Ben Edwards, aka thebassmonkey. The style is inspired by the deep/dark/hypnotic magic of the early 2000 prog era but with an eye firmly on pushing the future of the sound. Friday Island’s mission is to champion music for dark sweaty rooms and those cosmic 3am dancefloor moments when you forget where you are.
