Swarmz - Lyca (Remix EP)

Rising star Swarmz releases a remix EP for his viral track ‘Lyca’ – the EP features names such as Yungen, NSG, IO, Jaded and Shaun Dean. Full track-listing below.

With the original video currently sitting on over 6 million views on GRM Daily, the track sits at number #71 on the Spotify charts, #87 on the iTunes charts and has been C-Listed on Radio 1. As well as this, it has been added to the Rinse FM A-List and reached #80 on the Apple Music Chart.

‘Lyca’ sees the South London rapper celebrate and display his skillful lyrics and melodic flow, accompanied by a rhythmic beat and made complete by a catchy hook.

About Swarmz:
Earlier this year, Swarmz uploaded a snippet to Instagram. Or to put it more bluntly, he set alight the public’s imagination with the embers of a track that would quickly turn into a blaze. Enter: “Lyca”, an indelibly catchy heater that’s arrived in tandem with t-shirt weather and summertime motives.

“I got the chorus in – the catchy bit – to tease people,” the 21 year old artist explains of the initial snippet. “I put it on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and everyone was asking ‘Is there a full video to this?’ Obviously there was, but no one knew.” By now, though – a month since the video’s release – it’s clocked up a cool five million views, a strong co-sign from the court of public opinion that “Lyca” is one of this summer’s anthems, the tune you have you tell a friend, to tell a friend.

Playing off the name of the mobile network, also called “Lyca”, the name will be instantly recognisable by anyone that’s grown up in a city in any of the 23 countries where the company operates. Let’s make it clear, though – this isn't’ an advertising deal. “Lyca is a thing a lot of people use, it’s relatable,” says Swarmz, speaking on how he came to arrive at the song’s earworm of a chorus, which doubles up as a double entendre about liking a girl but not having enough time to wife her.

The relatability of the song is placing Swarmz name on a worldwide level, too. As well as the millions of racked up views, Swarmz has received countless videos of people showing love from across the globe. Standing outside one of the companies’ many shops, they film themselves jamming out to the tune. “I didn’t even know there are Lyca shops in other countries, and I’ve been getting videos of people singing the song outside the Lyca shop in another country,” he laughs, with a smile. “I saw a video of some people go in and buy a lot of the Lyca cards, throw them around, dance to the song, bopping.”
