JOPLYN - “AIRPORT/LONELY HOUR”

JOPLYN’s new single is a double A-side called: “AIRPORT – LONELY HOUR” where she basically shows both her musical sides, the yin and the yang, bold, loud and edgy electro house on one side, and deep, melodic and emotional house on the other.

When asked about what inspired the track, JOPLYN shared:

AIRPORT is a song I wrote in the cab on the way to the airport in Miami this March. I was just jotting down my thoughts that moment and ended up with a song/poem that I spoke into a mic pretty soon after.
“I’m going to the airport and I’m feeling alright. I’m going to the airport so if I’m short on time…”
This one turned out to be a really fun and easy one. Really happy it’s coming out now :)

The song LONELY HOUR lives in the paradox of intimacy — how love can hold us, break us, and still linger long after it’s gone. Wanting to be held but also pushed away, craving closeness while fearing the weight of it. The “lonely hour” is that inevitable moment when nearness fades, but touch can remain.

AIRPORT starts off with a bouncy electro breakbeat and a simple groovy bass. Her spoken word chant adds flavor immediately and additional synths start flying through the air as the vocal chops interact with the groove. In the breakdown, we hear distant vocal chops and also some 90s rave synths that build up the ramp before exploding into the final chorus with more epic synths and 16th driving percussions.

LONELY HOUR is the opposite of the A-side and starts with an 808 tom inspired deep house groove and some subtle piano lines before a deep Moog bass sets in with a hypnotic vocal chant which evokes a church-like feeling. Additional octaved driven synth lines set in and the drums keep building into the epic breakdown where the chorus vocals get supported by a deep pad and some changing chord sequences, before the track ends in an all-out synth heaven.
