Sgt Slick - Dance With You (feat. Karina Chavez)

"One of the most famous samples in dance music was taken from Carrie Lucas’ 1979 hit “Dance With You” when Armand Van Helden sampled a musical loop in his mega hit “You Don’t Know Me”.

Sgt Slick being the disco crate digging genius that he is, went back to the Carrie Lucas classic and delivered us this cover version, now with fresh vocals from Karina Chavez.

On the original mix Slick uses the hook string line that was sampled by Armand to great effect, building the new version around that hook and dropping in and out of the original disco moments in between. Huge energy in the production, those familiar strings and a cracking vocal from Karina are expertly mashed together resulting in an even more catchy version of the original classic.

Remixing duties see mysterious disco and edit duo JARC take their more underground approach, totally flipping the vibe and delivering a remix that is all about the original disco parts and with just a brief tease of the now very well-known string sample.

Two cracking versions and another super release from Sgt Slick!"

Vicious was born in 1992 and has stood strong and steady as the dance music industry has gone from a vinyl led underground movement to a global, digitally distributed and streamed phenomenon. In that time there have literally been hundreds of releases on the labels, the original imprint founded in a back yard shed out of a passion for the music…

That passion which is still vibrant if you talk to co-founders John Course and Andy Van, or any of the people that help make the label tick.

You simply don't make it through the turbulent times of the music industry without your heart being in it…

Some of the most notable artists who began their careers at Vicious include Avicii, Dirty South, Peking Duk, multiple ARIA and IDMA winning group Madison Avenue and Sgt Slick
