Reece Johnson & BUFS - Say You Want Me
This collaboration between Reece Johnson and BUFS is a prime example of Jackin’ House that pays heavy homage to the classic Chicago aesthetic. It balances raw, MPC style swing with a polished club ready low end.The record is built on a heavily swung 4/4 rhythm with the kick and skipping hi hats, classic sub bass drive, polyphonic synth stabs and subtle vinyl crackles giving the record that signature Chicago analog sound. The outstanding vocals in this record give it an instant classic anthem vibe. Short, looped and filtered chops create a clever hook that provides a solid foundation without overpowering the groove.
A producer with an obsession for the 90s house aesthetic and authentic MPC-swing, Reece Johnson has a consistent name across the world’s most respected imprints like Nervous Records, Robsoul, Midnight Riot, Tropical Disco, theBasement Discos Pomme Frite and Roots For Bloom. Since his production debut in 2012, the Sheffield UK based artist has records have been championed by names such as Dave Lee (Joey Negro), Mousse T and Marcel Vogel. Joining him is BUFS, a selector whose 20 year career behind the decks in the UK and Los Angeles has ensured a production sound that is educated and effective. Since stepping into the studio in 2022, BUFS has released on respected imprints like Feel the Funk Records, RH2, Juiced and Reason 2 Funk and developed a reputation to capture the authentic sound of Chicago house, making him the perfect collaborator for this release.
This record bridges the gap between 90s House nostalgia and modern house. It’s a record that understands the history of the genre and a testament to the enduring power of house music’s fundamentals.
