Eurythmics - Love Is A Stranger (Tripswitch Skadeco Remix) - White Label

Nick Brennan aka Tripswitch has been treating the world to his bootleg remixes for years now. It began in 2007 with a version of the late, great William Orbit’s ‘Water From A Vineleaf”, which he kept to himself for years but which eventually found the ears and endorsement of the great man himself; through a mashup of Talk Talk’s ‘Happiness Is Easy’ with Cocteau Twins ‘Alice’ in 2013, one of Nick’s early features on Hernan Cattaneo’s Resident Podcast, to the hugely popular bootleg of ‘Rooting For You’ by London Grammar which lit up dancefloors in 2018, Nick seems to have a knack for picking tracks he can do something worthwhile with.

Ahead of the launch of his 6th studio album ‘Repository’ in October, which SMP3 will be promoting very soon, Nick has decided to share with you his most recent bootleg, Eurythmics’ 1982 classic ‘Love Is A Stranger’. A tried and tested weapon on the dancefloor, Nick’s remix builds seductively over the first 3 minutes or so, “Love love love” beckoning in the listener in with hints of what’s approaching. When the track hits the smiles are in place, only to be whipped up even more by a crunchy, driving mix of a ska-infused backbeat and zydeco accordions. This is one for when you need that energy lift.

To accompany this lead mix, we’re bundling in wav copies of several of Nick’s other bootlegs (which are available from his Soundcloud, but this saves you the trouble of going to seek them out!). First, a recent bootleg of Ultravox’s ‘Dancing With Tears In My Eyes’, a driving proggy beast with a breakdown that does what you’d expect, given the title. Next up, a delicate and hopefully respectful honouring from 2021 of one of Nick’s favourite guitarists, Durutti Column’s Vini Reilly, with a take on the 1989 beauty of ‘Requiem Again’. Finally, in honour of the recent passing of a hero to many of us and while not one for the dancefloor, the above mentioned William Orbit remix is included for your listening pleasure.
