Moonface returns to the label with a new original and he’s brought some pals!

In a scene filled with hyperbole and over exaggeration, words such as ‘legend’ and ‘hero’ and passed around with scant regard for their meaning. But for artists such as Moonface, stalwart of progressive house for over 30 years, these words neatly synopsise his startling career. From humble beginnings on the south coast of the UK, he rose to the highest heights of Bedrock resident DJ, amassed an incredible back catalogue on If You Wait, Future Avenue, Bedrock and more, including 3 full length albums. That’s not to mention his incendiary DJ sets; he still regularly travels the world spreading the gospel according to Moonface. Dudes a legend. For real.

In original form, ‘Maze Monster’ is a tough, hypnotic groover with drummy sensibilities. A proper peak time bruiser, its nuanced sonics adds a touch of class to any event. We dare you not to dance when the reese bass drops midway!

On remix duties are two of the hottest new talents for the south west. Tojogo broke on to the scene in 2022 and has quickly grown stock on strong labels such as 3rd Avenue, Polyptych and Stellar Fountain. His Virtual Beach Bar show on Saturo Sounds continues to impress as he pioneers a fresh interpretation of the Organic House sound. In good hands, ‘Maze Monster’ takes on a deeper warm up vibe with snappy percussions, echo-y vocal adlibs and a rubbery bassline that cannot fail to move the floor.

Finally, Bournemouth DJ face, Erik Bruce turns in an immaculate breaks version that marries the tough beats of rave with the delicate melodics of prog. He began DJing in the early 90's, playing all over the country including residencies at Bournemouth's top progressive and techno night, Terminal, and Twisted Global parties along the South Coast. Equally at home in the studio, his sound covers the whole gamut of melodic music garnering support from Nick Warren to Meat Katie with releases on Lowering the Tone, Prognosis, AH Digital, and more.

Mid 2017 and some friends are discussing the music scene. They are unsatisfied by the way the big labels appear to sell out to a bandwagon sound that would eventually fall out of favour 6/8 months down the line and reminisced about the great labels of yesteryear, for whom quality and integrity played as much a part of the A&R process as originality and production value.

From this discussion came the idea of starting a new record label founded on old-fashioned ideals, a place where original, forward thinking music would be not only celebrated but be the norm. A place where the producer would not be abused and expected to master their own productions at their own cost and see most of the profits from their hard work swallowed up in distribution fees and label costs.

A place where the artists could build a community; a place of shared ideas and off the cuff collaborations. A place where the art of music would not be lost, giving way to mass media marketing and watering down of ideas for mass consumer consumption. A record label you can once again trust to weed out the mediocre and deliver time and again GREAT music.

A label by DJs, for DJs and the music-loving public. A label such as ASTIR recordings
