Alex Generis – Somber Path EP

Alex Generis presents Somber Path, a two-track EP on Love Is Loud that brings together hypnotic grooves, dub textures and deeply personal reflection. Moving between patient techno and emotionally charged storytelling, the release explores the depth found in stillness and the process of learning to live with difficult emotions.

Opening track “Shirzan” takes its name from the Farsi word for “lioness” or “lion woman.” Grounded in a slow, steady 122 BPM groove, it unfolds through analog textures and layered percussion, gradually drawing the listener into its dubby atmosphere. A bass-lead patch with the character of an electric guitar emerges at its core, sharpening the track’s single-minded intention: hypnosis.

The title track turns inward, pairing a bass-driven foundation with Alex’s own voice and poetry. Inspired by his path of self-discovery, “Somber Path” reflects on grief, the limits of material comfort and the meaning that can emerge from befriending one’s shadows. Its emotional weight runs through the music, with an unexpected polyrhythmic melody leading into a richly rewarding final drop.

Together, the two tracks form an intimate statement, connecting physical rhythm with the quiet work of understanding oneself.
