JAY1 - Your Mrs

One of a rising wave of new rap stars based outside of the capital, Coventry’s JAY1 has built a growing reputation on the back of ‘Good Vibes’ and ‘Becky’. Those two tracks alone have already accelerated over the 11 million streams landmark, with ‘Becky’ being B-listed at 1Xtra and playlisted at KISS FRESH and Capital XTRA.

Now JAY1’s momentum continues by dropping his latest cut ‘Your Mrs’. Anticipation for the release can be demonstrated by the reaction after he shared a teaser for the track. It picked up almost 5000 Retweets and 184,000 video views in just three days.

“I’m taking your Mrs, no brother I’m joking,” he begins, with a slick flow that highlights his potent wordplay. The production from Coolie (also the producer behind ‘Becky’) is taut and hypnotic, creating a beat that puts the focus firmly on JAY1. The accompanying video was directed by Suave, whose credits include MIST, Headie One and Slim.

JAY1 will follow the release of ‘Your Mrs’ with his first Fire in the Booth which will be aired live on Beats 1 on April 6th. The full video of the freestyle will then be live on Charlie Sloth’s YouTube channel from April 8th.

Having just completed a tour with ‘Options’ sextet NSG, JAY1 will play the O2 Academy Glasgow on May 17th with the J-Bone Collective in association with GRM Daily. The all-star line-up is headed by Kojo Funds, Jaykae and Ms Banks. Tickets are available from Seetickets.
