Terje Saether returns to the label with a brace of incredible originals, and a tasty Robert Solheim collaborative reworking, plus label favourite Daniel Klose on remix duties.

Terje is one of those artists that’s been there and done it all. With music signed to a number of high profile labels including Bedrock, Hope, and Silicon Souls’ Darkroom Dubs, his music has featured on a Nick Warren Renaissance mix and John Digweed Live In (Stereo) as well as countless playlists and club mixes across the world. Basically, he’s the mutts nutts and we are very glad to have him on board.

‘Red Tide’ continues the theme of his last release with us. Thick rhythms permeate as his deep, dark soundscape tells its tale juxtaposed against snappy percussions and choral tones that add a certain spirituality. On the reworking, Terje is joined by long time friend and collaborator, Robert Solheim who adds a techiness to the drums and leans into the Bladerunner-esque pads.

‘Not Our Future’ takes a much deeper, housier path. Classically progressive with nuanced arps and piano flourishes, this one gets under your skin from the off. Full of melodic ear candy, it’ll stick in your head all summer long. On the remix, we invite Hamburg-based Daniel Klose back with his incredible ear for detail. Achingly beautiful, its ebb and flow perfectly captures the originals motifs in Daniels signature style.

Mid 2017 and some friends are discussing the music scene. They are unsatisfied by the way the big labels appear to sell out to a bandwagon sound that would eventually fall out of favour 6/8 months down the line and reminisced about the great labels of yesteryear, for whom quality and integrity played as much a part of the A&R process as originality and production value.

From this discussion came the idea of starting a new record label founded on old-fashioned ideals, a place where original, forward thinking music would be not only celebrated but be the norm. A place where the producer would not be abused and expected to master their own productions at their own cost and see most of the profits from their hard work swallowed up in distribution fees and label costs.

A place where the artists could build a community; a place of shared ideas and off the cuff collaborations. A place where the art of music would not be lost, giving way to mass media marketing and watering down of ideas for mass consumer consumption. A record label you can once again trust to weed out the mediocre and deliver time and again GREAT music.

A label by DJs, for DJs and the music-loving public. A label such as ASTIR recordings
