Mondo Love & Betrayal - Your Latest
Fresh from basking in praise for their stunning debut single, ‘Correspondence’, Mondo Love & Betrayal deliver a second teaser for their hotly anticipated, self-titled debut album. Like its predecessor, it showcases the combined talents and kaleidoscopic synth-pop influences of the two men behind the project: experienced Nottingham producer Neil ‘Nail’ Tolliday, and fast-rising singer-songwriter (and sometime virtuoso jazz guitarist) Henry Claude Scott.
Whereas ‘Correspondence’ was a dreamy, hooky and warming break-up song inspired by changes in communications technology, ‘Your Latest’ sees Scott playfully takes aim at (in his words) “creatives oversharing”, a tongue-in-cheek slab of lyrical irony chock full of winking cynicism. It’s one of a slew of tunes on their forthcoming debut album reflective of Scott’s desire to stuff his lyrics full of nods to betrayal, love and loss.
Musically, it’s a typically warm and colourful delight that expressively pays tribute to their joint love of Pet Shop Boys and the producers they worked with during their infamous ‘imperial phase’ in the 1980s – the likes of Stephen Hague and Shep Pettibone. Those familiar with the iconic British duo’s sound during the period will notice subtle nods to the dreamier and warmer end of the PSB sound – all melancholic Chris Lowe chord progressions, tumbling synth-motifs, chiming lead lines, thickset sequenced bass and sweeping synth-strings.
This being Mondo Love & Betrayal, there are other sly sonic references to be heard, too, not least a tactile and wide-eyed piano riff that recalls some of the most loved and familiar British house tracks of the original Balearic movement – a nod, too, to Tolliday’s own credentials as a house music producer.
It all adds up to another essential sneak preview of the pair’s eponymous debut album, which will be released later in the year. A vibrant, colourful and deeply emotive sprint through synth-pop inspired pastures chock full of heartfelt references to pioneering artists and producers of the period (as well as 21st century exponents such as Private Agenda and Parcels), it looks set to be one of the strongest debut albums of 2026.
‘Your Latest’ will be released by NuNorthern Soul on 9th April 2026.
