Kostakis - The Taking (Birds of Mind Remix)

Almost five years after it first arrived, Birds of Mind revisit Kostakis's 'The Taking.' The Paris-based duo of Alex H. and Adrian C recently served up the new single 'Don't Leave Me Here' before their upcoming entry into the esteemed Body Language series. They have long been associated with this label, and last year they dropped a fine album on Kindisch that showcased their always spiritual and deep sounds. They flip this one into a supple and sensitive house soother. Filtered vocals bring melancholy moods to the gently bubbling drums as elegant synth progressions and more twinkling keys add real musicality to what is a heart-swelling remix.

Kostakis, a long-standing member of the Get Physical family, has a rich musical history, remixing the likes of Djuma Soundsystem and collaborating with Ryan Murgatroyd. His meticulously crafted sounds always leave a lasting impression, and this was no different with 'The Taking.' The original track is a beautifully lithe and elastic piece, with dreamy, soft-focus chords that traverse the scales. The addition of warm vocal sounds elevates the track, giving it a real electronic soul.
