Spirit Mechanix - Uhambo
Uhambo (meaning "The Journey") is the debut EP by Spirit Mechanix, the South African duo of Samukelo Mahlalela and Sibonile "Makhenikha" Mahlaba, whose paths converged through a shared devotion to house music.
The project is the result of years of collaboration between two artists whose musical foundations were shaped by family, faith, and the soulful pulse of 90s South African house.
The EP offers a sincere and grounded exploration of deep house—no frills, just emotion, groove, and intention. It’s music built on real experience: from church choirs and cassette tape collecting to formal sound engineering and scoring for film.
Samukelo brings cinematic depth from his work in film and TV composition (including Netflix projects), while Sibonile’s roots in live instrumentation and underground DJ culture give the music warmth and soul.
Their partnership as Spirit Mechanix represents a natural evolution of two lifelong journeys in sound, united by their deep respect for music’s spiritual and communal power.
The EP speaks to listeners who appreciate sincerity in house music—those who look for music that feeds both body and spirit.

Spirit Mechanix – Artist Bio:
Spirit Mechanix is the South African house duo of Samukelo Mahlalela and Sibonile “Makhenikha” Mahlaba—two self-taught musicians whose paths were shaped by sound long before they ever met. Rooted in community, spirituality, and decades of deep listening, their collaboration represents a return to house music’s essence: emotionally rich, soul-feeding, and purpose-driven.
Both artists grew up surrounded by music. Samukelo’s early passion was sparked by his uncle’s house records and nurtured through loop-based software like Ejay. He eventually carved out a career as an award-nominated film and TV composer, contributing to major productions including Netflix scores and Evolution Media’s music catalogue. Meanwhile, Sibonile came up through live church performances, 90s house cassette culture, and the underground DJ scene—eventually earning a diploma in sound engineering and refining his beat-making craft.
After years of working behind the scenes and honing their respective talents, the two formed Spirit Mechanix—a name that reflects their belief in music as both structure and soul, technique and feeling. Their debut EP, Uhambo (which means “The Journey”), is a deeply personal offering: music for the dance floor, but also for the inner self.
Rather than chasing trends, Uhambo draws on their lived experiences—family, faith, late- night sets, and studio solitude—to deliver warm, percussive, and layered compositions that speak to those who listen deeply. It’s a sonic reflection of growth, brotherhood, and creative alignment.
Backed by Offering Recordings and BBE Music, Spirit Mechanix is ready to introduce their sound to a global audience—authentic, grounded, and deeply rooted in the love of house.
