Somewhat of a companion piece to his 2024 Janet Jackson mix, Gavin Bradley delivers a dramatic rework of this 1987 R&B banger.
There’s a nod to 2-step here, and this one is sound designed to the max with a cue ball fashioned into a clap, slip-slidey synths and an emergent bass riff that spins like a windmill.
Keeping that high wattage vocal upfront, the track travels from minor and blasé through multiple angsty builds using plenty of ear candy: vintage house piano, rolling military percussion and midway sirens all lead to a metallic hammer-and-anvil climax.
The Deeper Mix and Edit give the full vocal while the Turn You Out Dub is meant to do just that, positioning Watley’s trademark nonchalance over a tight groove.
Hasta la vista, baby!
